词缀en的常见意义和用法

词缀en是唯一一个既能作前缀也能作后缀的词缀。无论作前缀还是后缀，高中阶段涉及以下含义和用法，高中同学特别要注意前两个用法：

1.en+名词＝动词，en的含义是give sth to

enjoy=give joy to 喜欢（能给人以快乐的事物，当然喜欢）

lengthen=give length to 延长（给…以长度）

strengthen=give strength to　加强、强化（给…以力量）

encourage=give courage to 鼓励（给人以勇气）

2.en+形容词＝动词　en的含义是make sth adj/more（所加形容词或其比较级）

enlarge=make sth larger 扩大，放大

enrich=make sb richer　使富有

soften=make sth soft 软化

sharpen=make sth sharp　使锋利

3.en+名词＝动词，en的含义是put sb/sth in（使…处于某地或某种状态）

endanger=put sb in danger

encage=put sb/sth in a cage把……关于笼中

encase=put sth in a case把……装入箱中
